1. Agrologist of the Year
Purpose
To recognize and pay tribute to an Agrologist who has made a significant contribution to British Columbia agriculture and natural resource science.

Eligibility
A. Nominee must have had full P.Ag. status for at least 5 years.
B. Nominee must be a registered member of the B.C. Institute of Agrologists and be actively practicing Agrology at the time of award selection.
C. Nominee must have made a contribution of noteworthy significance to British Columbia agriculture and natural resource science. The award may be given for a current (within the last 3 years), outstanding achievement or for distinguished achievement (outside the candidates normal work function) over a career. In either case, achievement should be sufficiently meritorious to have resulted in a definite contribution to agriculture and natural resource science in British Columbia.

Guidelines for Ranking Candidates
i. Contribution to agriculture and natural resource science reflected in  professional achievement - 50%
Outstanding achievements may result from administration, extension, research, teaching and/or professional affiliation with B.C.I.A. where the individual has produced products such as improved policies to the agricultural and natural resource communities, successful extension projects, research results (both quality and quantity) or other innovations.

Other important criteria are proven leadership and effective influence through professional participation that has enhanced agriculture and natural resource science in British Columbia.

ii. General stature among peers and the agricultural and natural resource science communities - 30%
Must be supported by at least 2 letters from professional organizations or formal groups in industry. Further written support from individuals strengthen the candidates position but no more than 5 letters in total should be submitted.

iii. Service to the profession at branch and provincial levels - 10%
The number of elected positions, length of service, and volunteer participation in BCIA affairs are all criteria by which to assess service to the profession.

iv. Recognition and awards already received - 10%
Includes both professional awards and other recognition outside the nominee’s immediate professional sphere.

9. Contribution to agriculture and natural resource science plus professional achievements (listed chronologically from most recent).
10. Service to the profession at branch, provincial and national level (list those societies and organizations in which the nominee was a member, and particular contributions that the nominee made while holding office in a particular association, society or council).
11. General stature among peers and the agricultural and natural resource science communities.
12. Honors and awards (list honors and awards already held).
13. Supporting letters (minimum of 2 from professional or industry organizations and from individuals up to a maximum of 5 - letters should document contribution to agriculture and natural resource science and general status among peers and in the agricultural and natural resource science communities).

2. Agriculturist of the Year
Purpose
To recognize and pay tribute to a British Columbia resident, engaged in agriculture, who has made a significant contribution to British Columbia agriculture.

Eligibility
a. Nominee must not be a member of BCIA, but must be actively engaged in an agricultural endeavour at the time of the award selection.
b. Nominee must have attained a recognized stature in the B.C. agricultural community.
c. Nominee must have made a noteworthy, significant contribution in leadership to the agricultural community. The award may be given for distinguished achievement over a career; however, service should be sufficiently meritorious to have resulted in a definite contribution to agriculture in British Columbia.

Guidelines for Ranking Candidates
i. Contribution to agriculture in B.C. - 40%
Outstanding achievements may result from personal innovations accepted by the nominee's peers, the industry, and/or government; longevity and positions held with industry organizations; and proven leadership and effective influence that have enhanced agriculture in British Columbia.
ii. Service to the farming community & public service – 30%
Community service outside the candidate's normal work function. Includes positions held, length of service, and/or participation as a volunteer.
iii. Recognition by peers - 20%
Must be supported by at least 2 letters from professional organizations or formal groups in industry. Further written support from individuals strengthen the candidates position but no more than 5 letters in total should be submitted.
iv. Personal achievement in agriculture - 5%
Personal success and innovations in the candidate's specific agricultural enterprise.
v. Previous Recognition and Awards - 5%
Includes technical and professional awards in agriculture and other recognition outside the nominee’s immediate professional sphere.

3.   BCIA Recognition Award 
Purpose
To recognize and pay tribute to a member of the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists who has demonstrated exemplary service to BCIA.

Eligibility
a. Nominee must be a registered member of the BCIA. at the time of award selection.
b. More than one award may be made to deserving candidates in any one year. The award need not be given annually.
c. Exemplary service may be considered as current (within the last year), or as outstanding achievement over an extended period. In either case, service should be sufficiently meritorious to have resulted in a significant enhancement of the profile and reputation of BCIA.
d. Currently or previously holding an elected office in BCIA at the branch or provincial level is not a prerequisite for the award.

Guidelines for Ranking Candidates
i. Service to the B.C. Institute of Agrologists at the branch or provincial level – 60%
Proven leadership and effective influence through participation in BCIA that has enhanced the reputation, profile, and effectiveness of BCIA with its members and its various publics in British Columbia, nationally or internationally are important criteria.
The number of elected positions, length of service, and volunteer participation in BCIA affairs are all criteria by which to assess service to the profession.
ii. General stature among peers and the agricultural community - 20%
Must be supported by at least 2 letters from professional organizations or formal groups in industry. Further written support from individuals strengthen the candidates position but no more than 5 letters in total should be submitted.
iii. Contribution to agriculture and natural resource science as demonstrated through professional achievement - 10%

4. Distiguished Agrologist Award
Awarded for meritorious service to the BCIA over the recipients career.

5.   Rules Governing BCIA Awards

The following procedures apply for nominations for the BCIA "Agrologist of the Year," "Agriculturist of the Year," and Institute “Recognition Awards."

1. Nominations may be made:
* over signature of three Agrologists, or
* by a branch of BCIA, or
* by council of BCIA, or
* by the awards committee appointed by BCIA council.

2. Knowledge of nominations shall be held strictly in confidence by those making or reviewing the nominations.

3. Nominations must be supported by documentary evidence as to the experience and accomplishment of the nominee.

4. Nominations are to be forwarded to the Registrar, BCIA, and are to be postmarked not later than January 15th.

5. Unsuccessful nominations may be re-documented and submitted again in subsequent years.
