BC Timber Sales (BCTS) manages about 20 per cent of the province’s allowable annual cut for Crown timber, generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber. BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C. The goal of BCTS is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system through auctions of timber harvested from public land in BC.
The Indigenous Peoples Engagement Specialist works within the BCTS business area to develop and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples to advance BCTS’ business principle dedicated to true and lasting reconciliation. The position works directly with Indigenous Peoples and BCTS staff to plan and facilitate legal consultation processes (i.e. preparation, engagement, accommodation, decision and follow-up) consistent with legal requirements, reconciliation and relationship building, and supports senior staff in negotiation and implementation of business-to-business and relational agreements that contribute to effective and durable relationships with Indigenous Peoples.

Qualifications for this role include:
- Registered, or eligible for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area, (i.e., Association of BC Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists) and 2 years of experience, gained within the last 5 years, related to natural resource or Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: it is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
