Victoria and Islands Branch Virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The Victoria & Islands Branch AGM will be held virtually on Wednesday, October 20th starting at 5:00 pm.  The same format will be followed as last year with a separate professional development farm tour at Little Qualicum Cheeseworks/Morningstar Farm is offered on October 23rd, 2021 (limited attendance).

To allow this year’s virtual format to proceed as smoothly as possible, Registrants are strongly encouraged to pay attention to the nomination and application deadlines below.  Early nominations and registrations are highly encouraged to facilitate preparations by the Branch AGM planning team.  

1.  Nominations are now being accepted for Victoria and Islands Branch Executive Committee positions for next year. 

Positions taking nominations are:

  • Articling Coordinator (2-year term) – the current person is willing to continue
  • President-Elect (2-year term)
  • Director at Large – current person willing to continue
  • North Island Director
  • South Island Director – the current person is willing to continue
  • Professional Development Coordinator (2-year term)
  • Treasurer (2-year term)
  • Secretary – current person willing to continue

Joining the Branch Executive Committee is a great experience! Learn about the business of BCIA, develop professional development activities, add to your curriculum vitae and increase your professional network. A reminder that serving on the Branch Executive Committee has allocated professional development hours.  Everyone interested (in Good Standing) is encouraged to put their names forward. To nominate yourself (or someone else with their permission), forward your nomination to Jennifer Wilson at Jennifer.A.Wilson@gov.bc.ca before October 6, 2021.  Nominations should include the position title, a photo (headshot) and a brief bio/statement.  Nominations will only be accepted from the floor for positions that did not receive nominations before the AGM.

2.  The Victoria and Islands branch is canvassing for motions from Registrants. 

All members must be in good standing to make a motion.  Please contact Thomas Elliot at tom@elliot.org if you would like to make a motion before the AGM!

3. Branch Recognition Award

The Victoria and Islands Branch annually recognizes an agrologist who has made a significant contribution to the Branch or agriculture, natural resources or environmental sciences in British Columbia.  The branch is currently accepting nominations for our Branch Recognition Award. Please contact Steven Stussi with your nominations at steven.stussi@gov.bc.ca before October 6, 2021.

4. Articling Program: Oral Presentations and New Graduates

All articling registrants that wish to complete their verbal self-introduction (aka oral presentation) at this year’s Branch AGM MUST email their name, photo and a brief biography to Stephanie James at stephaniessjames@gmail.com by October 6, 2021.  They must also register for the Branch AGM at the bottom of this page.  

Last-minute oral presentations from the floor will NOT be accepted.  Depending on the numbers and logistics associated with the virtual oral presentation, alternative options may be made available.

Recent branch graduates of the Articling Program (new PAgs and TAgs) will be recognized for their achievements. Those required to recite their Professional Oath MUST provide their name, a photo (preferably holding their framed registration certificate) and a brief biography to Stephanie James at stephaniessjames@gmail.com by October 6, 2021.  A reminder to also register for the Branch AGM at the bottom of this page.

Last-minute registration certificate requests from the floor will NOT be accepted.  Depending on the numbers and logistics associated with the virtual oaths, alternative options may be made available.  If the Professional Oath has already been taken at a previous meeting, it is not required again at this Branch AGM.
