Victoria & Island branch presents a Fossil Tour in the Comox Valley
Date: Saturday, September 14th, 2019
Time: 1 PM to 4 PM
Starting location: Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Center, 207 4th St, Courtenay, BC
Instructions: We will meet at the Courtenay and District Museum and Palaeontology Center for a brief lecture about the regional geology of Vancouver Island and a short video about fossil discoveries in the local area. We will then return to our personal vehicles, drive ~10 minutes away, and take a short hike to the fossil site. After a discussion about the history of the site and proper collection techniques from our tour guide, we will have a chance to search for fossils. Hammers, chisels and goggles will be supplied. You can keep any fossils that you find on the tour. If the species is of scientific value, you may be asked to donate the fossil to the museum collection, with the finder’s name attached.
Optional: Daniel will be organizing an 11 AM mix-and-mingle brunch for all BCIA members close to the museum. If you would like to join, please let him know by Friday, August 30th so a reservation can be made (contact info below).
