Areas of Practice and Expertise

My background is in environmental assessment and restoration specifically soils, water quality and plant taxonomy. I currently employ an EMS system at my site and coordinate our groundwater, air and reclamation programs.

Why did I choose this career?

I like the diversity of my career and specifically my job. There are so many different specialties you can get into and so many new things to learn, it is impossible to get bored!

Why I became a member of BCIA

BCIA is the designation branch which fit my skills and goals best. It encompasses so many different areas of practice so I knew I could do everything I was interested in within one group.

My typical day

Let me list a few:

  • Education initiatives with new employees as well as long term employees
  • Conduction groundwater sampling
  • Preparing and submission of permits requests
  • Supervising contractors
  • Planning reclamation
  •    Heli seeding
  •    Planting
  •    Re-slooping
  •    Contouring
  •    Fencing
  • Coordinate groundwater program
  • Coordinate air program
  • Field inspections and tours

Best parts of my job

I work at a specific job site which is always changing the earth. Being in this environment, it is a great feeling to protect animals and plants surrounding our disturbance. It is also nice to know that you are the one re-sorting the disturbance and returning it to a state where it can be used by the plants and animals that were there before us.
