Introducing BCIA's new President-Elect - Jane Kerner, P.Ag.

BCIA's New President-Elect - Jane Kerner, P.Ag.

Jane Kerner is a professional consulting agrologist who focuses on the areas of strategic farm business and succession planning, farm financial analysis and risk management. Her work has been and is now, mainly with primary producers, both large and small, through provincial and federal government programs as well as private contracts. She has also worked with Aboriginal producers within BC and Alberta to address their specific agricultural issues.

Her experience as an agrologist, as well as an agricultural lender for one of Canada’s larger banks, over the past 25 years allows her to see both sides of many of the financial issues which producers typically encounter.

She has also been trained in mediation and negotiating skills and has used these extensively over the same time period.

Jane is a member in good standing of the BC Institute of Agrologists and a past member of the Alberta Institute of Agrologists and has held many positions within both organizations over the years. She is also a past director and President of the Canadian Consulting Agrologists Association (which has since merged with the Canadian Association of Management Consultants).

Jane is very interested in the support and promotion of organic agriculture and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Certified Organic Association of BC, is regionally involved in some of the certification processes for organic producers and purveyors of organic goods within the province of BC.

She resides with her husband on an acreage north of Cache Creek, BC, where they have partnered with one of their sons to train rodeo performance horses and carry out equine structural consultation. She is also working toward establishing a small flock of quail for the purposes of organic egg production.
