The Province is seeking to update and enhance B.C.’s drought level scale, and that a proposal has been posted online for your review.
This proposal is available on the Water Sustainability Act Engagement Blog site (Blog #32), with comments open until March 31st, 2021. Included in the blog post is a short video that further describes the proposed changes to the drought levels. We encourage you to view at your convenience.
Drought severity in B.C. is currently communicated through four “drought levels”. The Province is proposing to update and expand the existing drought levels to better align with the North American Drought Monitor best practices. These changes are intended to more accurately describe drought and water scarcity conditions and allow for improved protection of water resources and local aquatic ecology.
The Province intends to run a trial of the proposed drought levels over summer 2021, depending on the comments received during this engagement period. Please note that the colour scheme of the levels may change pending further accessibility review as well.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to discuss the proposal further, please contact us by reply email to email@example.com by March 31st, 2021.
