Former BCIA President - Jane Kerner, PAg

BCIA President 2019 - 2021

Jane Kerner is a professional consulting agrologist who focuses on the areas of strategic farm business and succession planning, farm financial analysis and risk management. Her work has been and is now, mainly with primary producers, both large and small, through provincial and federal government programs as well as private contracts. She has also worked with Aboriginal producers within BC and Alberta to address their specific agricultural issues.

Her experience as an agrologist, and as an agricultural lender for one of Canada’s large banks over the past 25 years allows Jane to see many aspects of the financial issues that producers typically encounter. Jane has trained in mediation and negotiating skills and has used these extensively during her career.

Jane is a served as President of  BCIA  from 2019-2021, is a past member of the Alberta Institute of Agrologists and has held many positions within both organizations. She is also a past Director and President of the Canadian Consulting Agrologists Association (which has since merged with the Canadian Association of Management Consultants).

Jane is very interested in the support and promotion of organic agriculture and is regionally involved in some of the certification processes for organic producers and purveyors of organic goods as a member of the Board of Directors of the Certified Organic Association of BC.

Currently, Jane resides with her husband on an acreage north of Cache Creek, BC, where they have partnered with one of their sons to train rodeo performance horses and carry out equine structural consultation. She is also working toward establishing a small flock of quail for the purposes of organic egg production.

It must be noted that Jane is also a fine artist, with some of her works being selected as winning entries in BCIA's 2020 Art Collection competition. Consequently, the Victoria office is displaying some of her pen and ink and watercolours pieces in addition to a massive turquoise-inlaid bison skull with feathers, along with works by other finalists in the collection.
