Why did you choose the career you are currently in?
My dad was passionate about the environment and very outdoorsy. I wanted a career involving that. I took a few classes in rangeland management and plant identification in university and really enjoyed it, so I went in that direction.
Why did you become a member of BCIA?
To have access to courses to improve skills for my job, become a registered professional and be able to move up in my career.
What do you do in a typical work day or week?
Meet with First Nations groups and ranchers to discuss management decisions on Crown range. Inspect range developments that were implemented to increase range health and cattle gains. Monitor the health of range lands. Survey for invasive plant locations and monitor when contractors have sprayed. Research new methods for invasive plant control.
Share some interesting "perks" and experience of your job.
I get to travel by horse back sometimes in the summer! I get to go to many interesting conferences and AGMs and learn new methods for invasive plant control. I get to look at plants and explore new areas all summer.
