Expedited PAg or TAg Admission Application

Professionals who have the required educational requirements and relevant work experience may be eligible for immediate full status registration within the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) through its Expedited Admission Program.  Professionals must have a minimum of 15 years of agrology-related work experience from official Bachelor's graduation, not counting Master's or Ph.D. programs.

Upon approval by the BCIA Credentials Committee, applicants fulfilling the program requirements will be designated as full status registrants “in good standing” according to the Professional Governance Act and BCIA Bylaws.

Application Fee: $200.00 - non refundable

All application fees are non-refundable – whether accepted or not into the profession. The application fee offsets the administrative costs required to review all documentation towards registration to the BC Institute of Agrologists.  The fee is processed once the application is submitted online.

Annual Full Status Registration Fee:  $475.00 

The annual registration fee is based on a calendar year and may be pro-rated, based on the quarterly schedule, depending on date of registration.

PAg Application: For courses not in the "Approved Course List for Registration" please include course descriptions to assist in the official review.  Note:  Stand alone lab courses, seminar courses and work experience courses/co-ops are not accepted; appropriate directed studies, field studies, special topics, advanced studies and thesis courses are considered on a case-by-case basis; supporting documentation is required.

TAg Application: For diploma programs not listed in the "Approved Diploma Programs" please include course descriptions to assist in the official review.  This list will be updated and added to periodically. Note:  Stand alone lab courses, seminar courses and work experience courses/co-ops are not accepted; appropriate directed studies, field studies, special topics, advanced studies and thesis courses are considered on a case by case basis; supporting documentation is required.

Transcripts:

MAIL directly by the post-secondary institution, sealed official transcripts of credential(s) and transfer credits. Copies are only accepted if ICES report forms a part of the application package.  A PDF or electronic version of official transcripts provided by the educational institution are accepted. The school must email official transcripts directly to Laurena Olsen, Deputy Registrar, at laurena.olsen@bcia.com.
              
Applicants with degrees granted from outside of Canada MUST have their transcripts evaluated by the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) in Burnaby  Website:  www.bcit.ca/ices.  Ask for the comprehensive assessment, as required by the BC Institute of Agrologists. 

The Bachelor's degree must be evaluated, even if an applicant has multiple credentials, e.g. Master, Ph.D. Copies of transcripts will be accepted only if a comprehensive evaluation was done by an evaluation company, ideally by ICES; however, WES and IQAS comprehensive evaluations are also accepted.

Areas of Practice

PAg applicants are required to declare their area(s) of practice, up to three, at the time of an application submission.  If in the future if a registrant wishes to change their scope(s) of practice based on new skills/knowledge learned they may do so by noting them in the registrant's profile. 

TAg applicants are required to declare their area(s) of practice, up to two, at the time of an application submission. Upon acceptance into BCIA, the Registrar, Deputy Registrar and/or Credentials Committee will ensure that the declared scopes of practice are in line with the registrant’s education, training, and experience.  If the area(s) of practice differ from the education, two letters of recommendation are required to confirm competency in the area(s) of practice. If a registrant wishes to change their scope(s) of practice in the future, they must provide for the Registrar’s consideration, a reference letter from a registered professional, with direct knowledge of the ATAgs employment and experience, confirming the competency of the ATAg in the new area of practice.

Applications will be reviewed after all documentation has been received. After an application package has been submitted to the Credentials Committee for official review and decision, it is at the discretion of the BCIA Registrar which additional information may be requested from the applicant to assist with the review by the Committee.

Note: Incomplete applications will be closed after six months of the date of submission, and then the applicant must reapply.  This may occur if course transcripts without an application are received, or the required transcripts (or comprehensive evaluation for internationally educated applicants) do not arrive within six months.  Please apply first before requesting your transcripts (or comprehensive evaluation for internationally educated applicants) be sent to BCIA.
