New AAg and ATAg Registrants

Successful applicants must complete the Articling Program before achieving full professional status.

Application Fee: $200.00 - non refundable

All application fees are non-refundable – whether accepted or not into the profession. The application fee offsets the administrative costs required to review all documentation towards registration to the BC Institute of Agrologists.  The fee is processed once the application is submitted online.

BCIA will waive half ($100.00) of the application fee if a new graduate with a degree applies for registration within 180 days (6 months) after their official convocation.  If applying prior to official convocation, BCIA will accept an official letter from the university stating that all program requirements have been met.

Annual Articling Registration Fee:  $540.00 

The annual articling fee is based on a calendar year and may be pro-rated, based on the quarterly schedule, depending on date of registration.

Transcripts:

MAIL directly by the post-secondary institution, sealed official transcripts of credential(s) and transfer credits. Copies are only accepted if ICES report forms a part of the application package.  A PDF or electronic version of official transcripts provided by the educational institution will be accepted - the school must email official transcripts directly to the Deputy Registrar at laurena.olsen@bcia.com.
              
Applicants with Degrees Awarded Outside of Canada

Applicants with degrees granted from outside of Canada MUST have their transcripts evaluated by the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES) in Burnaby   Website:  www.bcit.ca/ices

Ask for the comprehensive assessment, as required by the BC Institute of Agrologists.  At a minimum the Bachelor's degree must be evaluated if an applicant has multiple credentials.

Copies of transcripts are  accepted only if a comprehensive evaluation was done by an evaluation company, ideally by ICES; however, WES and IQAS comprehensive evaluations are also accepted.

Term Reduction Request

Applicants with extensive accummulative work experience (6 to 14 years) in agrology after graduation* including 2 years within Canada (not including a masters or PhD program) may request a reduction by a covering letter with reasons to back your request of the articling term from two years to one year.  ALSO include letter(s) of employment for verificationThis request can only be done at time of application. Ultimately it is at the discretion of the credentials committee to grant this request.  All articling program elements must still be completed but just in a shorter time frame.

*Bachelor graduation for AAg application; Diploma graduation for ATAg application

Do you have an accumulation of 15+ years of work experience in agrology after graduation (not including a masters or PhD program)?  Apply under the Expedited Admission Program.

AAg Application: For courses not in the "Approved Course List for Registration" please include course descriptions to assist in the official review.  Note:  Stand alone lab courses, seminar courses and work experience courses/co-ops are not accepted; appropriate directed studies, field studies, special topics, advanced studies and thesis courses are considered on a case by case basis; supporting documentation is required.

ATAg Application: For diploma programs not listed in the "Approved Diploma Programs" please include course descriptions to assist in the official review.  This list will be updated and added to appropriately. Note:  Stand alone lab courses, seminar courses and work experience courses/co-ops are not accepted; appropriate directed studies, field studies, special topics, advanced studies and thesis courses are considered on a case by case basis; supporting documentation is required.

Areas of Practice

AAg applicants are required to declare their area(s) of practice, up to three, at the time of an application submission.  If in the future if a registrant wishes to change their scope(s) of practice based on new skills/knowledge learned they may do so by noting them in the registrant's profile. 

ATAg applicants are required to declare their area(s) of practice, up to two, at the time of an application submission. Upon acceptance into BCIA, the Registrar, Deputy Registrar and/or Credentials Committee will ensure that the declared scopes of practice are in line with the registrant’s education, training, and experience.  If the area(s) of practice differ from the education, 2 letters of recommendation are required to confirm competency in that area(s) of practice. If in the future a registrant wishes to change their scope(s) of practice they must provide for the Registrar’s consideration a reference letter from a registered professional, with direct knowledge of the ATAgs employment and experience, affirming the competency of the ATAg in the new area of practice.

APPLICATIONS will only be reviewed upon all applicable documentation has been received.  Once an application package has been submitted to the Credentials Committee for official review and decision, it is at the discretion of the BCIA Registrar to which additional information may be requested of the applicant in order to assist with the review by the Committee.

Note: If an application becomes dormant WITHIN SIX MONTHS due to an incomplete submission, the application will become inactive, and a new application is required.
