Working for sustainable management of surface and groundwater resources of British Columbia. Water Sustainability Act (WSA) was brought into force on February 29, 2016, to ensure a sustainable supply of fresh, clean water that meets the needs of BC residents today and in the future. The WSA provides new tools, policies and regulations for protecting, managing and using water efficiently throughout BC.
Project: Water resources allocations
• Work for the authorization/licencing of water resources after assessing the demand and supply in the watershed. Under the WSA 2016, anyone who diverts and uses groundwater for anything other than household use is required to obtain a water licence.
• To collaborate with different sections within the ministry and other ministries for studying the effect of water allocation decisions on the sustainability of the ecosystem.
• Participate and give feedback on various policies and programs on the ministry.
• Develop relationships with various stakeholders and undertake consultations with First Nations during the allocation of water resources.
• To attend various, meetings, workshops, trainings and participate in community of practice call (COP) at regional and provincial level to develop understanding of the policies, procedures and regulations and also to provide feedback.
