Bio

Keith is a Professional Agrologist with almost 30 years of experience. He has also just completed his Ph.D. at UBC-Okanagan’s School of Engineering. His research explored the potential of grazing cattle faeces to contaminate surface drinking water sources with Cryptosporidium parvum and the effectiveness of Best Management Practices (BMPs) to mitigate this potential hazard in BC’s community watersheds. A primary objective of his research was also to correlate the presence of grazing cattle in community watersheds with the incidences and risk of cryptosporidiosis in the human populations served by these watersheds. No correlation was found. The primary sponsors of this work were the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations and the Investment Agriculture Foundation of BC with the support of the BC Cattlemen’s Association.
In the past he has served as President and as a councillor of the BCIA, and in a number of branch executive positions. He took a leading role in rebuilding the membership database, directing the development of the new BCIA website, in professional development, and in professional due diligence.
Keith grew up on a dairy farm in southern Quebec and has a B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering from McGill University and a M.Agr. degree in Agricultural Economics and Business from the University of Guelph. He has also been involved with the George Morris Centre in reviewing strategies to improve the competitiveness of the Canadian agri-food sector, and is a member of the Canadian Farm Business Management Council and the Irrigation Industry Association of BC.
Keith is also currently a director of the Friends of Fintry Provincial Park Society.
In his spare time, Keith is a runner and has completed a number of marathons and half marathons, and the gruelling Kneeknacker. He is also an avid backpacker. Keith and his wife, Aldyn Overend, reside in Kelowna, BC. and are both volunteers with Inn from the Cold - Kelowna.
