New Afton Mine Tour | Saturday, April 22, 2023 | 12:15 PM

Register here to attend the New Afton Mine Tour

The cost is $50 per person. Water, light snacks, and bus transportation will be provided.

The New Afton Mine is a copper and gold project located approximately 350 km northeast of Vancouver and about 10 km west of Kamloops in the Thompson‐Nicola Region of the South‐Central Interior of British Columbia. The site utilizes several unique mining practices contributing to a reduced environmental footprint, including block caving, thickened and amended tailings, and electrical fleet components.

The tour will include a walk-through of the processing mill and thickened and amended tailings facility, a viewing of the active Afton Pit TSF, and a visit to research reclamation areas on the inactive Historical Afton TSF.

Please note that this tour occurs at an active mine site, and risks are inherent in this industrial environment. Participants are required to supply their own CSA-approved steel-toed boots. Other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as a hard hat, hi-vis vest, gloves, and safety glasses, will be provided by New Afton as needed. As facial hair can interfere with the correct operation of respiratory equipment, tour participants must adhere to the strict clean-shaven policy to enter the site. Security will provide razors at the gate if attendees are out of compliance.

Special Instructions:

  • Long pants/shirts are required for entry into the mill
  • No hooded jackets/tops as these can be snagged on equipment/machinery (if these can’t be removed from jackets they can be temporarily tucked in)
