The River Forecast Centre (RFC) analyzes snow packs, assesses seasonal water supply and flood risk, and predicts flows in British Columbia's rivers and streams. It produces a range of bulletins, maps, and warnings to inform emergency managers and the public about current and upcoming streamflow conditions.

Join this webinar presented by RFC hydrologists to learn how the forecasting process works with the Province of BC. The intended audience is any BCIA member with interest in hydrology, hydrological modeling, and/or water management. No background knowledge of hydrological forecasting is necessary.

Presenters and short bios: Jon Goetz, P.Ag. and Natasha Cowie, P.Ag. (Jon and Natasha are two of the RFC's hydrologists.)

Jon focused on hydrology and wetland ecology for graduate research, initially working as a hydrometric technologist for Alberta Environment before moving to BC to serve as a hydrologist in the Public Service for the past eight years (first in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, and now in the Ministry of Forests, which houses the RFC).

Natasha's research background is proglacial stream hydrology and geomorphology. Prior to joining the RFC, she spent a decade as an environmental consultant managing hydrology and climate monitoring projects across western and northern Canada.

Organized by the Victoria & Islands Branch yet members from any branch can register for this webinar.
