Join us for an insightful presentation exploring the Cariboo-Chilcotin Ecosystem Restoration Program — a long-standing collaborative effort aimed at restoring balance to one of British Columbia’s most ecologically significant regions.
Since 2008, the Cariboo-Chilcotin Ecosystem Restoration Committee (CCERC) has brought together government agencies, First Nations, the BC Cattlemen’s Association, conservation societies, and forestry professionals to address decades of fire suppression and land-use change that have altered the region’s natural fire-maintained grassland and forest ecosystems.
In this session, you will:
-
Learn how and why the program began, who’s involved, and what’s been accomplished so far
-
Gain insight into the regional ecological priorities and the practical work being done to restore grassland and forest health
-
Understand how ecosystem restoration benefits biodiversity, wildfire risk reduction, traditional land use, and overall forest resilience
-
Explore opportunities for collaboration and understand the strengths and limitations of the current restoration framework
Presenters:
-
Jane Wellburn, MA – Cariboo-Chilcotin Regional Manager, Fraser Basin Council. Jane has worked with FBC for over a decade and has managed the Ecosystem Restoration Program since 2019.
-
Hugh Flinton, RPF, PAg – A forester and agrologist based in the region, Hugh has served as the Ecosystem Restoration Program Implementation Coordinator since its inception in 2008.
This is a great opportunity for professionals in land management, forestry, ecology, agrology, and conservation to connect with the people behind one of BC’s leading restoration programs and explore the future of ecosystem recovery in the Cariboo-Chilcotin.
