Open to: BCIA registrants and their guests

Join the FV Branch for an educational tour of Van Maren Farms, a local hazelnut plantation in Chilliwack. This interactive event will provide registrants with a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about hazelnut production in British Columbia, from tree cultivation through to harvesting and processing.

Led by the Van Maren team, the tour will cover the history of hazelnut farming in the region, production challenges, and current innovations shaping the industry. Participants will gain valuable insights into orchard management, pest and disease control, and the future of hazelnuts as a sustainable crop in B.C.

This session is ideal for agrologists looking to expand their knowledge of specialty crops and engage with colleagues in a practical learning environment.


Learning Objectives

By the end of this tour, participants will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of hazelnut tree cultivation and orchard management.

  • Learn about the production cycle and harvest practices.

  • Explore the challenges and opportunities facing hazelnut producers in B.C.

  • Connect with peers in the FV Branch for shared professional learning.

  • Clothing/Footwear: Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate shoes for walking outdoors.

  • Parking: Free parking is available onsite.

  • Food/Refreshments: FV will arrange lunch and a package of hazelnuts - Please advise allergies and dietary concerns when you register.

ATTENTION articling registrants!! The in-person event will be an excellent opportunity to network and meet with other branch registrants.
