Join FV Branch at Virasat Farms Ltd., an organic blueberry farm in the heart of Langley. Owned and operated by Gurprit Singh Brar, Virasat Farms is committed to environmentally conscious, chemical-free production methods that support both soil health and crop vitality.
This in-person field tour is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in organic production and sustainable land stewardship. Participants will tour the production areas and engage in discussion with the farm owner about his experience transitioning to and operating under organic practices.

Discover how Virasat Farms manages a thriving blueberry operation without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Learn about the benefits and challenges of maintaining certification and how organic practices impact crop quality and resilience.
🔹 Soil Diversity: Fill vs. Native Soils
Explore how blueberry bushes perform in different soil conditions. The tour will offer a comparative look at production on fill soils versus native soils and how each affects nutrient retention, root development, water dynamics, and overall plant health.
🔹 Cover Cropping Between Rows
See how cover crops are utilized between rows to suppress weeds, improve soil structure, support beneficial insects, and contribute to long-term fertility. Gurprit will share his approach to selecting species, managing timing, and integrating cover cropping into a perennial fruit system.
🔹 Blueberry Varieties in Production
Take a closer look at Calypso, Liberty, and Aurora blueberries—three high-performing cultivars with distinct harvest windows and fruit characteristics. All together 40 acres of blueberries planted along with 12 different cover crops mix between the rows. Learn how variety selection plays a role in disease management, marketing strategy, and labour planning.
