BCIA is creating a space for Indigenous registrants to come together in relationship, conversation, and shared reflection. At this early stage, we are inviting Indigenous registrants who may be interested in helping shape an Indigenous Registrant Community of Practice.

As BCIA continues its own learning and work toward reconciliation, we recognize the importance of listening first. We also recognize that this work cannot be shaped only through policies, procedures, or assumptions made by the organization. It needs to be grounded in relationship, humility, and a willingness to learn from Indigenous perspectives, experiences, and knowledge.

The initial purpose of the Indigenous Registrant Community of Practice is to create a space for Indigenous registrants to connect with one another, build relationships, share stories and experiences if they wish, and help determine what this community could become over time.

BCIA is not coming to this group with a predetermined agenda or a request for formal advice. Rather, we hope to begin by listening and learning. The registrants who choose to participate will help shape the purpose, structure, and future direction of the group. Over time, the community may choose to provide insight into BCIA’s reconciliation journey, policies, practices, or relationships with Indigenous Peoples, but that will be for the group to help define.

We recognize there is no single Indigenous perspective. Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants are welcome to share only what they feel comfortable sharing. No one will be expected to speak on behalf of their Nation, community, or all Indigenous Peoples, nor will anyone be expected to educate others about Indigenous experiences.

This first step is intended as a space for Indigenous registrants. BCIA also recognizes that many non-Indigenous registrants are committed to supporting reconciliation and respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples. Opportunities for broader learning, dialogue, and allyship may be considered in the future, and we believe it is important that Indigenous registrants have the opportunity to help shape this process first.

At this stage, expressing interest simply means you are open to learning more and joining an initial conversation. There is no expectation of ongoing commitment unless and until the group itself determines how it wishes to continue.
