The Kamloops Branch invites registrants to take part in a guided tour of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc Residential School, an important and powerful learning experience focused on Indigenous history, culture, and lived realities.
This in-person tour offers participants the opportunity to walk through key spaces within the former residential school, including the chapel, dining room, kitchen, boys’ dormitory, and gymnasium. Guided by knowledgeable staff, participants will hear firsthand accounts and historical context that help deepen understanding of what took place at this site and the broader impacts of the residential school system.
The tour also introduces elements of Secwépemc culture, including language, traditional clothing, hunting and fishing practices, tools, and housing. This experience is designed to be an accessible and respectful introduction to Secwépemc history and culture, while encouraging reflection and learning.
