Join the Kootenay Boundary Branch for a half-day, in-person tour of Nupqu Native Plant Nursery, a leading provider of native plant propagation and ecological restoration services in the Southern Interior and Kootenay Region of British Columbia.
This guided tour offers a unique opportunity to explore both the outdoor nursery operations and indoor lab facilities, where participants will learn about native plant production, seed collection, and restoration practices. Nupqu, a 100% First Nation–owned company associated with Ktunaxa Enterprises Ltd, plays a key role in supporting biodiversity and ecological resilience across the region.
Participants will hear directly from experienced professionals as they walk through:
- Nursery operations and native plant propagation
- Seed collection, cleaning, and testing processes
- Applications in reclamation and restoration across mining, forestry, and wildfire recovery contexts
This session is ideal for agrologists looking to deepen their understanding of native plant systems in the East Kootenays, including:
- Genetic biodiversity of native species
- Ecological reclamation and restoration practices
- Seed handling and regional plant adaptation
- Practical applications in industry and land management

Directions
From Cranbrook:
Head north on Mission Road from Hwy 95/Theatre Road, continue past St. Eugene Golf Course, cross the bridge, take the right fork, then left at the next junction and continue ~10 km. The nursery will be on your left.

From Kimberley:
Take Hwy 95A North, turn right onto LD Ranch Road, then immediately left. Continue ~5 km — the nursery will be on your right.
