Get ready for an exhilarating and informative tour through the stunning grasslands of Wycliffe Butte! Co-hosted by the Grasslands Conservation Council of BC (GCC), BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA), the Nature Trust of BC (NTBC), Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), the East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC), and the Province of BC, this event promises a deep dive into the heart of grassland ecology.

Tour Highlights:

  • Guided Hike: First we meet in the Stirton RD parking lot. We then embark on an easy to moderate 4km hike to the top of the first Butte and back, with several informative stops along the way.
  • Expert Insights: Learn from top experts about the Wycliffe Conservation Corridor, grassland ecology, and a variety of fascinating topics including:
    • Grass/plant/weed identification
    • Forest ingrowth and ecosystem restoration
    • Effects of fire on grasslands
    • Grassland management for wildlife, livestock, and recreation
    • Invasive species control
    • Species and habitats at risk
    • Recreation management strategies
