The OK Branch and PRSSS are pleased to host the first-ever Agricultural Capability Tour in Kelowna, BC. This full-day, hands-on field event is designed to introduce participants to the BC Land Capability Classification for Agriculture system and build practical skills for conducting agricultural land assessments.
Taking place alongside the 2026 PRSSS Soil Identification course, this tour will focus on real-world field evaluations of agricultural land in and around Kelowna. Participants will gain exposure to the principles of land capability classification, observe field assessment techniques, and develop a foundational understanding of how these assessments inform land-use decision-making.
Led by Scott Smith, PAg and Megan Ludwig, PAg, both highly experienced in agricultural capability assessments, this session emphasizes applied learning in a small-group setting to ensure a high-quality experience.
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain familiarity with the BC Land Capability Classification for Agriculture manual
- Develop basic field assessment skills for evaluating agricultural land
- Understand how land capability assessments support agricultural planning and decision-making
- Learn from real-world examples and expert-led field instruction
