Event Description:

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve, professionals across various industries—including agrology—are exploring its potential applications. This in-person, hands-on workshop is designed to introduce participants to AI technologies, discuss their relevance to agrology, and examine ethical considerations surrounding their use.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Understand how AI tools like Generative AI (GenAI) are being used in professional fields.
  • Discuss both the opportunities and challenges AI presents in agrology.
  • Explore best practices for responsible AI use within a professional regulatory framework.

Facilitator:

David Williams, MASc, P.Eng, a Professor in Electronic Engineering Technology at Okanagan College, has been engaged with emerging technologies since the late 1990s. He will provide insights into AI’s evolving role in professional practice, offering guidance on its responsible application.

What to Expect:

✅ A hands-on learning experience—bring your own laptop!

✅ An overview of AI applications relevant to agrology and environmental sciences.

✅ A discussion on ethical considerations and regulatory frameworks surrounding AI use in professional settings.

  • This workshop is intended for educational purposes only and does not constitute BCIA policy on AI use.
  • The discussion will focus on general AI knowledge and its professional implications rather than specific endorsements or regulatory directives.
  • The workshop will be held in the HS building, room HS101.
  • Remember to bring your laptop!
  • Parking
    • The closest parking lot is Lot 6, which can be accessed via Campus East Rd or Campus West Rd, off of KLO Rd.
    • Visitors may park at any of the lots, but must pay for parking either using the PayByPhone app, the SmartPass QR code, or at one of the available pay stations.
    • See attached map for parking lots and pay stations. The PayByPhone parking code is 11434.
  • Transit
    • The following bus routes service the Kelowna campus: #1 Lakeshore, #4 Pandosy/UBCO Express, #8 University, #12 McCulloch
  • No refreshments provided; feel free to bring snacks and a water bottle.
