Held every five years, the BC Land Summit is the premier collaborative conference providing interdisciplinary networking & learning opportunities for professional practitioners in fields related to land and land-use in BC. Leading up to this event, PIBC is hosting a webinar exploring the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in planning and related fields. We will explore the opportunities, challenges, and risks of this evolving technology, specifically:

  • Practical ways to apply AI in organizational settings, with an emphasis on local government – the City of Kelowna is leading the way by harnessing AI to lessen the need for citizen in-person visits to City Hall, accelerate the development permit application process, and streamline public consultation;
  • Long term risks and potential dangers (cyber security) of AI, and how to mitigate them;
  • Potential legal, ethical and equity issues arising from administrative AI-based decision-making;
  • The need for accurate, comprehensive, and authoritative data to support AI and how to collect this in a timely manner.

The BC Land Summit is designed to spark innovation and collaboration. This 3-day event offers valuable insight from multiple perspectives and ideas that will influence the future of land and land-use. Join us in Nanaimo, BC on May 8th, 9th, and 10th.
