Join the Vancouver Branch for an engaging in-person field tour of the Greater Lulu Island Peat Bog at Garden City Lands, a unique urban ecological site in Richmond, BC. This half-day session will explore the natural, cultural, and ecological significance of peat bog systems, with a focus on restoration, biodiversity, and climate impacts.
The event will begin with a welcome, introductions, and land acknowledgement, followed by an overview of the site’s natural history, Indigenous history, and settler history. Participants will then head out for a guided bog tour, where key ecological processes and management practices will be discussed in a real-world setting.
Topics covered during the tour include:
- Native bog species and invasive plant management
- Biodiversity within peatland ecosystems
