Mountaintop removal coal mining has been associated with serious environmental and community health impacts. This paper assessed the extent and spatial distribution of selenium and other potentially toxic elements near the town of Sparwood originating from fugitive dust emitted from two mountaintop coal mines. Join the BCIA’s reading club session for an opportunity to discuss “Spatial distribution of selenium and other potentially toxic elements surrounding mountaintop coal mines in the Elk Valley” by Wyatt Petryshen published in Heliyon Journal – 9 (2023) e17242.
There will be a brief introduction and prompts for discussion, but the session will generally be an open space for discussion, collaboration, and networking about a common interest. The discussion will be led by Jenn Wilson, P.Ag. from BCIA’s Victoria & Islands Branch. All Branches are welcome to join.

Remember additional PD time is earned for reading the article.
Make sure you register for this event if you are a Registrant of BCIA so that you can confirm event attendance and claim the PDH on your profile.

This is an interactive session. If you attend you are expected to participate. Please read the article prior to the reading session by downloading the PDF HERE.
