Join us for a guided walking tour along the trails of Towhee Creek, a tributary of the Tsolum River with the Tsolum River Restoration Society! This educational event delves into the Tsolum River watershed, highlighting restoration initiatives spearheaded by the Tsolum River Restoration Society. Learn about key conservation efforts, including willow staking, gravel trap rehabilitation, conifer planting, and the Tsolum Recovery Plan.
The tour will also explore habitat enhancement projects for smolt and fry in Towhee Creek’s ponds, as well as the historical development of its tributaries leading into the Tsolum River. Additionally, discover the crucial role of small tributaries like Towhee in flood mitigation, nutrient storage and transport, and winter fish habitat.
Participants will gain insight into the Gary Oak ecosystem in upper Towhee, restoration efforts led by the Comox Valley Naturalist Society and Tsolum River Restoration Society, in collaboration with temperature monitoring initiatives. Join us for an immersive experience in local conservation and environmental stewardship!

About the Presenters
Wayne White: Wayne is a current part of the board of directors as the President for the Tsolum River Restoration Society. Wayne was a founding director of the Tsolum River Restoration Society in 1998 when the society started restoration efforts for the orphan copper mine at Mount Washington. Throughout his career he has worked with pollution control and inspection of monitoring mines. In 2022 Wayne received the BC Achievement Community Award in recognition of his decades of work towards improving the health of our local environment and community.
Katie Gair Program Coordinator: Katie's background is fisheries biology, having worked in private and government sectors. She graduated from UVic with a B.sc. in Marine Biology. She has worked as the Program Coordinator since 2023.
