Our Columbia Region is looking for a new public member to join its 17-member board!

Are you interested in being a board member?

  • Want to make a difference for fish and wildlife and be part of a supportive team?
  • Are you looking for a paid professional development opportunity?
  • Maybe you want to network, sharpen your decision-making skills, be part of a team, and further your commitment to reconciliation?

Interested candidates from our Columbia Region should review our information for public board member applicants and submit an application form for public board member by 4 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. MT on Friday, August 15, 2025.

You’ll be joining a board that allocates close to $5.5 million each year to conserve and enhance fish and wildlife projects in watersheds impacted by BC Hydro dams.

  • We’re a supportive team that meets mostly online and sets meeting dates in advance so you can plan the rest of your life.
  • You’ll be making important decisions that have direct and often immediate benefits for fish and wildlife, while you’re adding to your skills and experience.
  • And we’ll compensate you for your time!

As part of the 17-member board, you will review and evaluate grant applications, participate in strategic discussions, join in consensus-decision making processes, and contribute to the region’s annual operating plan. This year the Columbia Region board approved approximately $5.3 million for 25 fish and wildlife projects.

“Board members provide essential strategic direction to the FWCP and ensure the projects we fund are effective,” says FWCP’s Columbia Region manager, Jen Walker-Larsen, who explains that the FWCP is a five-way partnership between BC Hydro, the Province of BC, First Nations, Fisheries & Oceans Canada, and public interest holders. The FWCP offers a flexible meeting schedule and compensation for board members.

“We know the ideal candidates are likely already busy people and we want to encourage anyone interested to learn more about this opportunity to use your skills and build new ones,” says Walker-Larsen. “As a public representative on the board, we want you to bring a regional perspective to the board table and be prepared to make a three-year commitment.”

Interested candidates should contact the Columbia Region manager at Jennifer.Walker-Larsen@bchydro.com or 250-814-6645 for more information.
