Join the Kamloops Branch for a hands-on field tour exploring innovative on-farm research into the use of diverse cover crop mixtures as nurse crops for forage establishment. This event will provide participants with an opportunity to learn about the objectives of the research, observe field trial plots, and discuss how diverse cover crops can support forage production, improve soil health, and contribute to more resilient agricultural systems.

Can a cover crop be used as a nurse crop for hay? That is the question Fresh Valley Farms asked with their on-farm demonstration research. A diverse cover crop improved yields and reduced weeds when compared to a traditional nurse crop of forage oats.

The session will include a guided tour of the research site, discussion of current findings, and opportunities to ask questions and network with fellow agrologists.

Whether you work in forage production, soil management, crop consulting, or are simply interested in practical research taking place in British Columbia, this field event offers valuable insights into emerging agricultural practices.
