Duncan McColl is Vice President of the Society for Ecosystem Restoration in Northern BC (SERNbc) and Chelsea Region is the Peace Region Manager of the Fish & Wildlife Compensation Program (FWCP). They will be giving a presentation on the evolution and current initiatives of the Northern B.C. restoration community of practice (CoP). The CoP is a grassroots initiative coordinated through SERNbc with support from other organizations interested in ecosystem restoration. The purpose of the CoP is to build restoration practitioner efficacy and capacity through improved knowledge sharing, communication and collaboration. The presentation will speak to the need for the CoP, the work to date, how to get involved and the road ahead for the CoP. We will close with sharing about a project led by SERNbc that is well aligned with the values of the CoP and illustrates 1) the importance of striving for continuous improvement; 2) how investing in leading practices returns sociocultural and ecological benefits; and 3) the impacts of daring to be innovative.
