The fall 2026 issue of Get The Dirt was released on Friday, October 16th, and there are several changes that are important for articling registrants to be aware of relating to the Articling Program.

Here is a quick summary of what is changing and what it means for you:

  • Regional PD model: BCIA is transitioning from branches to Regional Professional Development (PD) Working Groups and a Provincial PD Advisory Group. Regional meetings that the local region may host will replace the traditional branch AGMs.
  • Fewer articling requirements - effective immediately: You no longer need to complete branch related activities such as:
    • attendance at a branch PD event
    • attendance at a branch AGM
    • providing a short articling introduction at the branch AGM
    • volunteering at a branch or BCIA event, attending a branch executive meeting, or serving on a professional group.
  • Online Ethics Course: A new online format is being released this fall, offering greater flexibility to complete the course at your own time and pace. Launch and access details will be available soon.
  • Articling Extension Fee: For 2027, the fee increases from $60 to $150 and applies at the upcoming renewal period following completion of at least two years in articling status, rather than three. Articling is intended to be a transitional period during which registrants develop and demonstrate the competencies necessary to advance to full professional status. This change reinforces that purpose and encourages timely completion of articling requirements.

These updates as noted above are intended to support a more streamlined pathway to full registration. All other articling and advancement requirements remain unchanged.

Ready to advance? If branch-related activities were your only outstanding requirements, you can now complete your final documentation and submit your advancement package through the Articling Program Portal. Please review your remaining requirements and timeline with your mentor.

If you have questions about how these changes affect you, please contact BCIA at admin@bcia.com or 250-380-9292.
