Joan Grau is an Environmental Scientist with the Earth and Environment group at WSP in Prince George, British Columbia. He works mainly in the Oil & Gas industry and he provides services in regards to site remediation, conducting Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, prepares safety protocols, supervises subcontractors, and prepares reports for clients.
His graduate research involved collaboration with Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAFC) in one of the pillars of the Riparian Function Assessment Protocol (RFAP) in New Brunswick. This project was focused on assessing the health of functional riparian areas over farmland and to set the steps to convert the paper-based riparian buffer health assessment guidelines into a GIS-based mapping decision support algorithm.
In the past, he acquired significant knowledge and experience in low order stream restoration projects over farmland and he has also used geospatial analysis, coupled with his deep knowledge in riparian areas, in order to map beaver habitat suitability within sub-catchments driven by biological processes over the Omineca region, in BC.
