The Victoria and Islands Branch AGM is booked for Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse, 2487 Mt St Michael Road, Central Saanich, BC V8M 1T7 from 10 am to 3 pm. This is an In-person event only, there will be no virtual option available.

After the Victoria and Islands Branch AGM, join us for a PD event at the Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse on October 1st to learn about cider making . To join, you will need to register for this PD event separately HERE. Sea Cider is a farm-based cidery on the Saanich Peninsula just minutes from Victoria, on Vancouver Island. This ten-acre farm is home to over 1,300 apple trees and 50 varieties of heirloom apples. Sea Cider opened its farm gate for business in 2007 to create an organic farm and orchard that produces traditional fermented artisan ciders. Since then, the Sea Cider Farm has grown to annually produce 16,000 cider cases and continues to grow.

Agenda:
9:30 am to 10 am – Registration, coffee/tea and networking
10 am to noon - AGM
12 pm to 1 pm – Lunch
1 pm to 3 pm – PD session on cider making - Separate registration HERE
3 pm to 4 pm - Mingle and shop for cider.

Please note that photographs and footage will be taken throughout the Event. These will be used by BCIA for marketing and publicity in our publications, on our website, newsletters, and on social media. Should you not wish to have your photo taken and used for these purposes, please advise the photographer at the time.

Cost: $20 covers the cost of lunch – salad, sandwiches and assorted desserts. Please confirm any dietary needs by September 15, 2023.

Nominations for Branch Executive: We are looking for nominations for Victoria and Islands Branch Executive positions. Positions up for election this year at the Branch AGM include:

  • Articling Program Coordinator, 1 year term
  • Director 1 - South, 1 year term – Current person is willing to continue
  • Director North, 1 year term
  • Director At Large, 1 year term – Current person is willing to continue
  • Professional Development Coordinator, 2 year term (current PD Coordinator will finish their second year to help train and support this position)
  • Secretary, 1 year term - Current person is willing to continue
  • President elect, 1 year in this position and 1 as President

Being part of the Branch Executive is a great experience! You can learn about the business of the institute, help develop professional development activities that you are passionate about, add to your resume, and grow your professional network. Additionally, being part of the branch executive can be used for professional development hours. We encourage everyone that is interested in putting their names forward. If you would like to nominate yourself (or someone else with their permission), please forward your nomination to Jennifer Wilson at jennifer.a.wilson@gov.bc.ca prior to September 15, 2023. Nominations should include the position of interest, a photo and a short bio/statement. Please note: Nominations will only be accepted from the floor for positions that did not receive nominations prior to the AGM.

Branch Award Nominations: Do you know an outstanding Agrologist? Every year the Victoria & Islands Branch likes to recognize an Agrologist who has made a significant contribution to the Branch or to BC agriculture, natural resource or environmental science. We are looking for Branch Agrologist of the Year for 2023, to be announced at the AGM. Nominations close September 15, 2022. Please send your nominations to Jennifer Wilson at jennifer.a.wilson@gov.bc.ca.  


Motions: The Victoria and Islands branch is canvassing in advance for any motions from the Branch members. All members must be in good standing to make a motion. Please contact Jennifer Wilson at jennifer.a.wilson@gov.bc.ca if you would like to make a motion prior to the AGM.


Articling Registrants Needing To Do Their Oral Presentation and Newly Elevated Registrants

All articling Registrants that need to complete their oral presentation at this year’s AGM, please forward your name to Daniel Lamhonwah at daniel.lamhonwah@madrone.ca by September 15, 2023. Please note: All those wishing to complete their oral presentation must pre-register with Daniel (and sign up when registering online).

All newly elevated Registrants (new PAgs, TAgs and LLAgs) will be recognized for their achievements. Those required to recite their Professional Oath, please provide your name to Daniel Lamhonwah at daniel.lamhonwah@madrone.ca by September 15, 2023. Please note: Those required to recite their oath must pre-register with Daniel (and sign up when registering online). **If you have already recited your Professional Oath at a previous meeting this is not required again at this Branch AGM.
